Question 1: What are the uses of cc and bcc?

Cc or "Carbon Copy"

This function simultaneously sends copies of electronic message to secondary recipients. This is for people you want to know about the message, but are usually not directly involved. It is mainly for people that do not need to act or reply to the message but are kept informed.

Benefits/Uses:

- Keeps other people in the loop on certain issues (e.g. keeping managers up to date on issues)
- Lets people you know if they are expected to take action or if they are just being informed
- Allows you to make the receiver aware that other people know what is going on (in case you want them to take the content more seriously, or treat it as more important or urgent)


Bcc or "Blind Carbon Copy"

This is the practice of sending a message to multiple recipients in a way that conceals the fact that there may be additional addresses from the complete list of recipients.

Benefits/Uses
- Used to prevent an accidental "reply all" from sending a reply intended for only the originator of the message to the entire recipient list.
- Send a copy of one's correspondence to a third party when one does not want to let the recipient to know the third party;s email address
- To send a message to multiple parties with none of them knowing the other recipients
- Useful for protecting people's privacy and preventing their email address from being forwarded around the internet and misused.



Question 2: What are the parts of an email?

Headers
Headers contain information concerning the sender and recipients

Elements of the Header Field --

Body
The Body is the main part that the recipient is interested in. It contains the actual message content and can be any number of things or a combination of graphics, videos, texts, etc.

Signature
The Signature appears at the end of the message, containing information about the sender. This is usually automatically configured and included in every outgoing message.

Attachments
These are optional and includes separate files or documents that may be part of the message.


Question 3: Give at least 5 rules to give a good email.

Rule 1: Keep emails short (without cutting your messages).
- Emails/sentences filled with extra words that add little meaning may just confuse the receiver and may give conflicting interpretations.
- Try to be witty, concise and precise.
- You can break your message into bullet points if necessary.

Rule 2: Observe proper capitalization. Avoid writing in all caps.
- Writing in All Caps is like shouting and has a strong effect. Use it sparingly.
- Text in upper case is significantly more difficult to read than lower and mixed cased text.

Rule 3: Write perfect subject lines.
- In the subject line, avoid being wordy and vague.
- A good subject contains the message's bottom line.
- Summarize the message but leave out unnecessary words.
- If there is action required in the email and there is a corresponding deadline, include it in the email subject.

Rule 4: Take another look at your email before you send a message.
- To avoid misinterpretation, allow every message at least some minutes of rest after you have finished it. Read it again before you press send.

Rule 5: When in doubt, end emails with "Thanks".
- When you can't decide how to end your email or does not know what is appropriate ("bye", "regards" or "best wishes"), end your message with a simple "Thanks".

The President's Report

Last Monday- July 23, 2012, we were asked to watch the President's 3rd State of the Nation Address and we were given  guide questions. President Aquino gave a really long speech. In his report, he first mentioned the problems that were already resolved since his last SONA. Then, he revealed his programs to solve the problems that have not yet been resolved.

In the eyes of a 12-year old Filipino student like me, 

these were the things in the report that really caught my attention: 

1. Infrastructure

     a. Build new airports in Bohol, Daraga and Misamis Oriental 

     b. Upgrade the Mactan, Puerto Princesa, Tacloban airports into an International                       Airport.

     c. Build a two-way elevated NLEX-SLEX connector.

2. Employment

     a. There are 3.1 million new jobs offered to Filipinos.

     b. For the people who are working, the government implemented the Performance               Based Incentives to give benefits.
     c. The rate of unemployment decreased.

3. Economy

     a. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index increased.

     b. Our GDP grew by 6.4% , the highest growth in the Southeast Asian Region.

     c. We no longer borrow from other countries instead the other countries borrow from             us.                                     

4. Education

     a. Proposed additional budget in 2013.

     b. Increase in the number of TESDA scholars under the Training for Work                           Scholarship Program.                                        

     c. More schools will be built to satisfy the need for additional classrooms.

     d. Build new chairs to satisfy the need for lack of chairs in schools.

     e. Success of the TESDA Specialista Scholarship Program.

     f. 1:1 ratio of books to students

5. Health and Wellness

     a. There are 1,672,977 mothers who underwent regular check-up

     b. 1,672,814 children were vaccinated to fight diarrhea and other diseases

     c. 85% of the Filipinos are now  members of PhilHealth.

     d. PhilHealth supports the needs of the people specially the poor and they also                     covered certain illnesses  like dengue, pneumonia, cataract and other kinds of                   cancer.                                     

     e. 30,801 nurses and medical workers were sent to rural provinces so that the people          there can avail the medical services.                                   

     f. Mosquito traps were placed in different places in the country to prevent dengue.

6. Tourism

     a. Increase in the tourist arrivals here in the Philippines. In 2016, 10 million tourists are targeted to  visit this country.                                        

     b. Puerto Princesa Underground River is now one of the New Seven Wonders of the World

     c. The tourism campaign "It's More Fun in the Philippines" is very effective.

7. Agriculture

     a. The full implementation of the CARP (Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program)

     b. Export of coconut water reaches 16 million

     c. Rice Imports decreased because farmers now produce more rice.

8. National Security and Welfare

     a. Crime Rate reduced into half.

     b. 74,600 guns to be handed out in 2013 because 45% of the police still do not carry             guns.

     c. Allocate over 28 billion pesos for the AFP Modernization Program.

     d. In 2013, 10 attack helicopters, 2 naval helicopters, 2 light aircraft, 1 frigate and air             force protected equipment, will be arriving.                                  

There is still so much more that President Noynoy reported on. In fact, when I was browsing the internet, I found this summary of the SONA,  which I think will be very helpful for students like us.

All in all, I think the President has done a really good job and I am hoping he will do an even better one this year.

Let The Games Begin!

It was the first Highschool Intramurals for us and we did not know what to expect. I wanted to actively participate in the games. I played Basketball during the Cerberus Cup but our team lost so I had to look for another sport and there were no slots left except in table tennis. I didn't know a thing about table tennis but I was determined to learn. The first problem was, in order for me to play during the Intramurals,  I had to undergo tryouts.  I had to quickly find somebody who was willing to teach me. On Sunday,  I learned how to play Pingpong in an hour. Luckily, my doubles partner and I won in the tryouts the following day. We were really excited at the same time very nervous.

The Intramurals proper started last Thursday, July 19.  It started with a parade from the school gate to the covered court. Team Vindemiatrix was at the head of the parade, followed by Team Vulperuien, Team Valkyrinx, and Team Cerberus. Each batch tried to outdo each other by presenting their cheers and displaying their banners and props. 

After the parade, the Opening Program followed. The program started with an opening prayer and the singing of Lupang Hinirang led by 3-SPJ. This was followed by the Lighting of Torch by Fane Pelagio, Rookie of the Year 2011.  Ms. Malou Labao delivered a message. I led the Oath of Sportsmanship with Alexur Naag, who, like me, also competed in the 2012 Palarong Pambansa in Pangasinan. Then, the different teams raised their respective flags before our Principal, Mr. Sulpicio C. Alferez. III declared the 2012 Intramurals open.

We were no match to the stronger and more experienced pingpong players but it was okay. We tried our best and we have still many years ahead of us to try to improve ourselves. In between our own games, we transferred to the Naga City Gymnasium where the Basketball and the Badminton games were held. Volleyball, Table Tennis and Board Games were held in school. I lost my voice cheering for the Cerberus Team in the different games. But it was so much fun and I believe we got more closer with each other. The Championship Games were held last Saturday followed by the Awarding of the Winners. Unfortunately, I had to go home early because I was not feeling well and had a slight fever.

A Piece Of Heaven

It all started when our Araling Panlipunan teacher, Mrs. Nelia Hernandez, asked the class to make a newspaper. We had a hard time finding a place that we can feature. Our group first thought of featuring the CamSur Watersports Complex. But we thought that it was already very popular and we wanted to feature a place that was still waiting to be discovered. We heard about the STONEHOUSE GARDEN RESORT in Barangay Panicuason and when the owners responded to our request to visit the place, we decided on it.

We went on a  Saturday afternoon,June 30 2012. We first met inside Naga City Science High School and were accompanied by Ma'am Nelia Hernandez and Sir Raffy Acabado. All of us were really excited. It was a long ride to get to the place, which was nestled at the foot of Mount Isarog. But when we first rang the bell at the gates of the resort and we were led inside, we already knew that the trip  was worth it.

We were really happy and excited while entering the Resort. The place was full of trees, plants and  flowers.  We first saw a huge cabana and an infinity pool beside it. On the other side is a tennis court beside the clubhouse.

We were very lucky that we were warmly welcomed by the owners, Mr. and Mrs. John and Nanette Wood. They also granted us an interview. They introduced us to the amenities of the place and we learned that they have hotel rooms for visitors who wanted to stay overnight.  They said that they built this stonehouse for the future generation to see and experience nature. After the interview, they toured us around their five-hectare property. We saw their organic vegetable farm where they grow a lot of vegetables and fruit-bearing trees. We also saw their mini forest and their animal farm. It was really impressive.

We learned that the welcome drink that they served us was natural and came from the passion fruits which they grow naturally. It was really delicious and very refreshing.

It was a tiring but very enjoyable adventure around their property. After our tour, the owners served us a sumptuous meal of pizza, pasta, salad, fruits and others. There was so much food. Mr. Wood told us that they prepare the pizza from scratch and bake them in their own brick oven. We ate a lot because the food was really delicious.

As we were about to leave,  we asked Mrs. Wood one last question and that was "Why did you name this Stonehouse Garden Resort?" She said "We named it Stonehouse Garden Resort because it all started with a childhood dream. Our mother told us to study hard and work hard so that when we grow up, we will earn well. She said that when we are already earning  and decide to build a house of our own, we should not build a Bahay-Kubo. Instead, we should build a Stonehouse which can last a lifetime".

We are very thankful to them for sharing their "Piece of Heaven" with us and we will never forget this experience.

The Story So Far

I have always been in a hurry since the day I was born. Mama had a difficult pregnancy and had to be operated on by C-Section when I was only 8 months old inside her tummy. I was born on February 26, 2000 at 1:51 in the afternoon, the same day that the remains of St. Therese of the Child Jesus was brought to Naga. That's the reason why my second name is Therese. Jillian was chosen by my 2 older sisters. I am the youngest of 3 girls. I was the smallest at birth but because I was good at drinking milk, I grew big in no time. Too big, in fact. 

Mama said that I was a very happy baby. I was the bundle of joy being the youngest of the family. 

                                                                                                                                        

      

I am very close to my Papa and he always tells me I'm his baby. He is the one who tutors   me in  Math. I think I got my love for numbers from him. I am very lucky to have him.

Since Papa, Ate Aika, and Ate Tricia are now in Manila. Mama and I are the only ones left in Naga.

Mama is also my idol. She takes care of me always. She brings me to school and fetches me too. She is also very supportive and helps me when I am having a hard time.

I have 2 older sisters-Ate Aika, who is 12 years older than me and Ate Tricia, who is 6 years older than me. I grew up doing what they did.

 Ate Aika is a very good piano player and I also wanted to be like her. When Ate Tricia attended ballet classes, I also did. Both of them were swimmers and I wanted to be one, too. Both excelled in school and I strive to be like them.

                    

                             Now, I discovered that I love swimming and I am quite good at it.

I also discovered that I am good in numbers and have joined contests and gone places because of this.

I realized that I wouldn't have discovered my talents and skills if it were not for them. But I also realize that to be good at something, I need to work hard at it.

I am already 12 and in my first year in high school at the Naga City Science High School. I will continue discovering myself and my talents and work hard at them. I am excited at what the future will bring.

                   

Cerberus Cup

Cerberus Cup was a team-building activity for 1st year students of the Naga City Science High School. It was an inter-class activity, so each class had their respective colors, team names, cheers, banners, and representatives for each game. We were given very short notice so we never really had time to practice and plan our cheers, color and team name. Even though our class was not well-prepared for the said event, I think we did a really great job which resulted to great outcomes.

The Cerberus Cup was so much fun. There were games that we lost that made us really disappointed. When the opposing team had the lead, we always wanted to catch-up to achieve our goals. There were also games that we won which made us really happy.
       

               
The most important thing was teamwork and cooperation of every member of the class. It was an opportunity for us to bond and act as one team. After the activity, I felt like we were really blessed. We want to thank a lot of people for their presence and their support which really made a lot of difference for us
